LeineRoebana dance Hermans and Shaffy*

For their new choreography Next, LeineRoebana are working together with chansonier, composer and musician Matthias Kadar. The power of youthful hubris takes centre stage before the intermission, followed by the effect of pose and form; directness versus indirectness. In part one Kadar sings chansons and songs by Jacques Brel, Franz Schubert, Toon Hermans and Ramses Shaffy. Three young dancers visualize the essence of this kind of music: an invisible volcano of hankering and yearning. Truth burns, glows, exhausts. In part two, Kadar looses himself in the hysterical repertoire of Nina Hagen and the regular LeineRoebana dancers pay homage to the recently deceased dancer/choreographer Ton Lutgerink. An odd combination? We call it unruly.

*Toon Hermans was a Dutch comedian and singer, known for his simple home-grown humor and clever wordplay. Ramses Shaffy was a headstrong actor and chansonier, known for his philosophical lyrics and turbulent lifestyle. They were both iconic figures from the world of Dutch-language song with careers spanning from the early sixties to the late nineties of the 20th century.

Dance by Tim Persent, a dance concert - successful premiere

Holland Dance Production in association with LeineRoebana (co-producer)

In 2012 LeineRoebana dancer Tim Persent will have been dancing in the Netherlands for a quarter of a century. The Holland Dance Festival devotes an evening to this extraordinary dancer. A Dance Concert, a program of short dance pieces, live music and film excerpts, compiled by Tim himself. He wants to celebrate its anniversary by giving back to the audience that supported him all these years. To this end he worked with some of his greatest sources of inspiration. Andrea Leine and Harijono Roebana created a new duet especially for Tim and Bennie Bartels:Meat Me. Other contributors include Ton Simons, Ann Van den Broek, Richard Alston, violist Joost Keizer and soprano Claron McFadden. The programme is directed by Theu Boermans.

Dance by Tim Persent, a Dance Concert can still be seen in the Dutch theatres from 7 April until 23 May. See the website of Holland Dance for the playlist.
